Abdul Samad Dawood, Chief Executive Officer of Engro Holdings from Pakistan, met with Bangladesh’s Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today at the State Guest House Jamuna, where they discussed potential investment areas in Bangladesh.
During the meeting, the Engro CEO shared the company’s growing interest in entering Bangladesh’s telecommunications and energy markets. He highlighted Engro's willingness to play a role in the country’s development, particularly by helping to distribute gas from Bhola to support industrial growth.
“We believe there’s huge potential in Bangladesh’s telecom industry, and we are also looking at strategic energy collaborations,” said Dawood.
Chief Adviser Prof Yunus welcomed the interest and called for partnerships that align with long-term national development goals. “Our aim should be to invest in projects that create lasting impact for the people,” he stated.
Dawood is currently visiting Dhaka to attend the Bangladesh Investment Summit, organised by the Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA). He praised the event for its inclusive atmosphere and high-level engagement.
“The BIDA Summit was well organised and felt very genuine. It was encouraging to see a strong representation from the global business community,” he added.
Prof Yunus invited the Engro team to return for further exploration of opportunities in various sectors. “Bangladesh is open to ideas, innovation and partnerships that benefit not only investors but also society at large,” said the Chief Adviser.
Also present at the meeting were Chief Adviser’s Special Envoy for International Affairs Lutfey Siddiqi, SDG Coordinator Lamiya Morshed, and Principal Secretary Sirajuddin Sathi.
