A Satkhira court has sentenced Evaly Chief Executive Officer Mohammad Rassel to three months in jail in a cheque fraud case.
He was also fined equal amount to the value mentioned in the dishonoured cheque.
The verdict was delivered by Judge Md Habibur Rahman of Satkhira Joint District Judge Court-1 around 3:00pm on Sunday (June 22).
According to case statement, Sheikh Tanzir Ahmed, a resident of Razar Bagan area in Satkhira municipality, ordered an Apache 160cc single disc motorcycle from Evaly after paying the full amount. As the company failed to deliver the product within the promised time, Evaly issued him a cheque worth Tk 1,55,000 with a deadline of January 11, 2022.
However, the cheque bounced when deposited. Following this, the buyer served a legal notice to Evaly. Though Evaly received the notice on January 30, 2022, they did not take any steps to pay the money. The victim later filed a case under the Negotiable Instruments Act with Satkhira Amoli Court-1.
Mohammad Rassel was not present in court when the verdict was announced.
The matter was confirmed by additional public prosecutor Advocate A B M Imran (Shawon) of Satkhira court.
