Holcim celebrates successes

DHAKA: Holcim Cement Bangladesh Ltd (HBL), a leading Cement Manufacturer of the country celebrates its successes in a two day long celebration event followed by a press briefing at its new Corporate Office at building called “Ninakabbo” located at Tejgaon-Gulshan Link Road of the capital.

The celebration features three recent achievements of the company - specifically the company completes its state of the art capacity expansion project at its Meghnaghat plant, implements SAP as its business process automation process and moves into a

new corporate office.

Capacity Expansion HBL; a group company of Switzerland based cement leader called “Holcim”; has a long history of supplying quality cement for construction of apartments, individual house buildings, industrial building, dams, roads, power plants, infrastructure like longest bridges and tallest buildings etc. of Bangladesh.

The Holcim cement brand is the undisputed choice for infrastructure projects of Bangladesh. The demand for the Holcim

brand has increased manifold in Bangladesh since it started its operation in the country in the year 2000.

In order to grow further and to meet growing demand of quality cement, HBL has recently completed a modern state of the art capacity expansion project at its existing plant located at Meghnaghat.

The new expansion will produce at least 700,000 tons of quality cement every year. With this additional capacity, the total yearly capacity of the company will stand at close to 2 million tons. The overall capacity expansion project includes - a Closed Circuit Ball Mill capacity of 110 tons per hour, (0.7 million tons per year), an Electronic Packer with 12 Nozzles, a Bulk Loading System, a Clinker Storage of 30000 tons and a Pontoon with pneumatic fly ash unloader.

It may be mentioned that internationally reputed equipment supplier Enexco Teknologies, a Group Company of Beumer Group, have supplied the ball mill, packing plant and related accessories. Besides, reputed local civil construction company, Development Construction Ltd (DCL) has undertaken all civil construction works while IES (Industrial Engineering and Services) was responsible for erection of structural steel and electromechanical equipment.

In a query about special feature of the capacity expansion project, Aidan Lynam, Area Head of South Asian region of the Holcim Group, expressed “About this particular expansion project, I just want to highlight that project was undertaken in strict compliance with Holcim standards. The local projects team, in collaboration with Holcim Bangladesh’s operations management, teamed up with the expertise of Holcim Group Support, in Switzerland and in Spain to produce an outstanding project outcome in terms of Safety, Schedule and Budget. It is of particular satisfaction that the project has been completed satisfactorily to the highest level of international Occupational Health and Safety.”

Rajnish Kapur shared his experience about the project and mentioned that additional volumes from this capacity expansion would cater for the continuously growing demand of Holcim cement as the company has had constraints in assuring product availability to all of our customers recently during peak demand periods.

SAP Implementation With an objective of streamlining business processes, HBL has recently implemented SAP (Systems, Applications & Processes) integrated business process automation.

Through SAP implementation, key business processes like manufacturing, sales, distribution, supply chain, accounting and controlling have been fully integrated which will ensure integrity and reliability of Holcim Bangladesh’s management information system. This will eliminate manual processes and un-needed human intervention in operating businesses of the company.

Rajnish Kapur, Managing Director of the Company states that effectively implemented SAP systems would have cost benefits too. “Integration is the key in this process. It can help us to improve our interactions with, and services to key stakeholders like customers, suppliers, and regulatory bodies”, he added.

New Corporate Offices at Ninakabbo Very recently HBL has shifted its Corporate Office (CO) from Baridhara to a unique

building called “Ninakabbo” located at Tejgaon Gulshan Link Road of the city. A dedicated team of HBL, after making extensive searches particularly in the areas of Gulshan and Banani of the city, selected this building that meets not only the requirement of adequate office space but also fulfils the obligation of safety, hygiene and environmental aspects. This appealing building “Ninakabbo” demonstrates a unique combination of aesthetic, and function-oriented features, for our corporate offices. It is

relevant to add here that “Ninakabbo” is the winner of “Architecture Award 2013”.

Rajnish Kapur, Managing Director of the company said “An effective and professionally functioning Corporate Office is essential to allow the Company to fulfill its vision and achieve its long term goals”

“We trust that our new Corporate Office located at Tejgaon Gulshan Link Road, will be the effective center for enhanced business activities for our valued clients, customers, channel partners, patrons, and stakeholders” he added.

At the end of a two day long celebration event, a press briefing held at HBL new Corporate Office was attended by representatives of the country’s media.

At this briefing, both Mr. Aidan Lynam and Mr. Rajnish Kapur shared their views stating that Bangladesh offers an attractive and buoyant market for the cement Industry due to its growing development projects and HBL always strives to be a trusted development partner of the country. They also emphasized that Holcim fosters the concept of good Corporate Governance, Fair Competition, Sustainable Developments, People Development, Human Rights and Community Development wherever it operates.
