Robi deposits Tk 2.25cr to workers fund

DHAKA: Robi Axiata, country’s one of the largest mobile phone operators, has deposited Tk 2.25 crore from the 2013 profit to the government’s workers welfare fund.

Robi Chief Corporate and People Officer (CCPO) Matiul Islam Nowshad handed over the cheque to labour and employment state Minister Mujibul Haque Chunnu at his secretariat office on Tuesday morning.

Earlier, it deposited Tk 1.2 crore from the 2012 profit and that was the first mobile phone operator’s contribution to the fund.

Labour secretary Mikail Shipar along with ministry officials and high officials of the Robi were present on the occasion.

According to Bangladesh Labour (Amendment) Act 2013, the companies are required to share five percent of their profit with the workers.
