BB to ban manual cheque for commercial banks: Atiur

DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman Thursday said receiving manual cheque would be banned anytime soon to ensure transparency in monetary transactions.

"The banks are asked to take preparation," said the Governor about the digitizing move.

The decision came from a national dialogue on `Strategic Priorities for Digital Bangladesh,` organized by Access to Information (ATI) at the national economic council in the city.

He also said, "The decision has been taken to bring transparency in banking transactions and build `Digital Bangladesh."

“Besides, the central bank decided to open cross-border transaction facility.”

He also said the Credit Information Bureau (CIB) of the central bank is going to be experimentally automated in September.

Expressing positive attitude about mobile banking, he said most of the barricades were pulled out regarding it.

"But state-owned banks are not showing interest in using mobile banking," he said.

He also informed that only 4/5 banks took licenses for mobile banking.
