DHL drives road safety in Bangladesh

DHAKA: DHL Global Forwarding, the air and ocean freight specialist within Deutsche Post DHL, in conjunction with Awareness of Defensive Driving & Road Engineering for Safe Society (ADDRESS), held a workshop recently to provide both DHL Bangladesh’s drivers as well as its vendors’ drivers with enhanced driving skills.

Comprising a total of 28 participants, the purpose of the workshop was to promote safe driving on the roads of Bangladesh, an initiative undertaken by DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh as part of the company’s commitment to ensure the safety and well-being of its employees and the local community.

Sergeant M Nurul Momen, Dhaka Metropolitan Police (North) facilitated the full day workshop at DHL Global Forwarding Bangladesh’s Head Office.

DHL Global Forwarding Country Manager Nooruddin Chowdhury stated during the workshop that, “DHL as a company is very much aware of safe driving and road safety issues as this is an essential part of our day-to-day operations  as a logistics company.”

“We consistently work on educating the company’s employees on these matters, especially those who are more exposed to field work. We also hold fire drills for our employees every quarter in all our premises in the country, to ensure fire safety as well as train them to tackle fire-related disasters efficiently,” he added.

The workshop was attended, among others, by Emlyn Jones, Global HSSE Implementation Manager, Aleya Ferdous-Secretary of ADDRESS, M Shafikur Rahman, Chairman of ADDRESS.

In addition to driving skills, the key speakers also shared their knowledge and expertise on how to manage sound physical and mental health at work as well as on the road while driving.
