Speakers urge for active dialogue to receive FDI

Speakers at a virtual meeting have called for active and continuous dialogues on value added agriculture processing, digital ecosystems and Green Capital with working in public private partnership to woo more FDI.

The American Chamber of Commerce in Bangladesh (AmCham) held a virtual panel discussion titled “FDI in priority sectors: Value Added Agriculture Processing, Digital Ecosystems and Green Capital” on Sunday.

Prime Minister’s Private Sector Industry and Investment adviser Salman F Rahman attended the discussion as chief guest while Executive Chairman of Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) Md Sirazul Islam attended as special guest.
Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) of the United States Embassy in Dhaka JoAnne Wagner was present as the guest of honor.

The session was chaired by the AmCham President Syed Ershad Ahmed while AmCham executive committee member and Managing Director & Citi Country Officer, Bangladesh Citibank, NA N Rajashekaran, moderated the panel discussion

United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) - Senior Regional Representative- South Asia Mehnaz Ansari, Country Manager of PepsiCo Bangladesh Debasish Deb, Founder and chairperson of SBK Tech Ventures Sonia Bashir Kabir, Senior Country Officer – The International Finance Corporation (IFC), the World Bank Group Nuzhat Anwar, participated as the designated panelists.

AmCham, with its continued focus on cross-border trade and investment facilitation and initiatives for a conducive business environment in Bangladesh arranged the event with sector specialists from both public and private sectors.

The discussion mainly focused on identifying opportunities for investments in Bangladesh specifically in Value Added Agriculture Processing, Digital Ecosystems and Green Capital.

There was an active dialogue on what would enable greater inflows of FDI in these areas including working in partnership with domestic investors and government agencies.  AmCham Vice President Syed Mohammad Kamal gave the vote of thanks in the event where a good number of AmCham members including the Executive Committee Members, foreign dignitaries, business leaders, media representatives and other distinguished guests attended.
