Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) led by its president Sayem Sobhan Anvir is working to implement Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s gold policy and make necessary reforms in the sector.

Besides, the lost glory of gold industry will be revived by BAJUS with vibrant steps on the part of Sayem Sobhan Anvir, also Managing Director of the country’s largest business conglomerate Bashundhara Group.

Dr Dilip Kumar Roy, former president of BAJUS and chairman of District Monitoring Standing Committee, made the comment while addressing as the chief guest at a view exchange meeting with jewellers of Bargura district on Monday. 

Barguna unit committee of BAJUS organised the programme at an auditorium in the district town. 

The meeting began with floral reception of the guests by the district unit leaders of the organisation.

Dr Dilip spoke of the need for establishing jewellery industry and ornament factory to implement gold policy, adding that BAJUS led by its president has been working to this effect. 

“By executing all these works under the leadership of our new President, we will revolutionize the jewellery industry in this country,” he said.

It is imperative to boost and utilise expertise of artisans involved in the jewellery industry, he added.

Masudur Rahman, assistant secretary and vice-chairman of BAJUS Standing Committee on Law and Membership, said there are a lot of potentials in the jewellery sector in Bangladesh, but the same remained stagnant for long. Sayem Sobhan Anvir has brought gold business to the life.
“Gold traders from across the country are being united under an umbrella responding to the call of BAJUS president. There is no alternative to being united to keep the business afloat.”

Joynal Abedin Khokon, Member Secretary of BAJUS Standing Committee on District Monitoring, said “All traders will have to do business together in the days to come. There will be no room for illegal trader to do business. So, all gold traders have to be members of BAJUS.”

The national identity card, photo and mobile number of the customers should be included in the memo while selling gold ornaments, he said.

BAJUS Barguna District Branch Convener Uttam Karmakar presided over the programme while Member Secretary of BAJUS Standing Committee on Law Membership Md Riponul Hasan and Member of BAJUS Standing Committee on District Monitoring Pabitra Chandra Ghosh, BAJUS Barguna district committee president Uttam Karmakar, BAJUS Barguna district committee former president Santosh Karmakar, General Secretary of the BAJUS Barguna district committee Samresh Karmakar, among others, addressed the programme.

The district committee leaders demanded welfare fund for jewellers, introduction of insurance and formation of a gold bank.
