Bashundhara Foundation has been distributing meals among the students of Durgarampur Government Primary School in Bancharampur, Brahmanbaria for 13 years.
As a result of this initiative, a total of 309 students in the school receive nutritious meals daily, contributing to an improvement in student attendance rates.
During a visit to the school, it was observed that classrooms numbered from One to Five were filled with students, with every seat occupied as they actively participated in their academic pursuits.
During the designated class breaks, typically around 11:00am, the school authority diligently serves meals to students in classes I and II.
Following this, students in class III receive their meals starting at 12:00pm and again at 2:00pm to class IV to V students. The joy expressed by the students upon receiving these meals reflects the significance of this provision in their daily lives.
Abdullah Al Mahin, a third-grade student, said that they do not have to bring food from home. They satiate their hunger by eating the regular tiffin provided by the school.
Mariam Akhter, a fourth-grade student, said that the Bashundhara Foundation provides different meals to their school daily. These include eggs, bread, bananas, biscuits, crackers and fruits.
Parents of the students said that they are very happy with the regular tiffin provided to their kids in a primary school at the rural level. This nutritious meal not only benefits them physically but also increases their interest in school.
Akalima Akhter, head teacher of the school, said: “Bashundhara Foundation is giving tiffin to all the students of our school every day. It increases the attendance of students. Along with this, the quality of education is also improving. We are very grateful to Bashundhara Group.”
