Ninety-seven percent of students of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) opposed student politics within the campus, according to an online survey conducted recently.

The protesting students convened a press conference in front of the university's registrar building around 7 pm on Wednesday (April 3).

During the press briefing, the students disclosed that they administered a two-day online survey utilizing their respective institutional email addresses. A total of 5,834 individuals partook in the survey, with 5,683 opposes student politics. In essence, the survey results indicate a 97 percent opposition to student politics among the student body.

Earlier finding no other way, general students of Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology (BUET) have sent an open letter to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina seeking her intervention for a student politics-free campus.

The open letter said, "Honourable Prime Minister, it is our earnest appeal to you. Implement the dream the greatest Bangalee of all time had dreamt about Buet. (Implement) the policy he adopted. Keep BUET out of student politics, even if that requires law reform. Because laws are created for the sake of justice."

"We request you, please come and visit our campus. We want to show you the ideal campus an apolitical BUET has become for students over the past few years. We promise you, we will overtake the world's leading universities in technology very soon," it added.
