Quota protest: Shanir Akhra turns into battlefield

Sporadic clashes between police and students over the quota reform movement turned Dhaka's Shanir Akhra into a battleground on Wednesday night.

During the violence, at least six individuals, including a man and his young son, were shot and injured.

The injured– Babu Mia, 50, Rohit Mia, 2, Md Foysal, 18, Monirul Islam, 20, Piyash, 17, and Md Sohag Mia, 27 – were taken to the Emergency Department at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

The clashes broke out in the evening, with the toll plaza of Mayor Mohammad Hanif Flyover and a police box being set ablaze.

Earlier in the afternoon, protesters blocked the Dhaka-Chattogram Highway, stopping traffic.
