Adviser Nahid Islam assured the Jagannath University students on Monday (Nov 11) that their five-point demands would be addressed within three days.
The five demands of the students are:
• The project director appointed during the fascist regime must be held accountable and transferring project responsibility to a qualified Army officer within seven days.
• A clear roadmap from the Ministry of Education for handing over Jagannath University's second campus project to the Army.
• Immediate acquisition of the remaining 11 acres of land and cancellation of all agreements concerning the old campus made during the authoritarian period.
• Inclusion of Jagannath University in the recently announced UGC Pilot Project.
• Annual budget allocation of at least Tk 500 crore for the university.
Nahid Islam met the agitated students outside the Secretariat in the capital around 3:30 pm and agreed that their demands were justified.
"I completely support the students’ demands, especially for a second campus, as they are reasonable. While we may not be able to establish a hall immediately, we can work towards transferring the project to the Army, but discussions are required,” he said.
He also apologized on behalf of officials who, according to the students, had disrespected them during previous discussions.
Students responded by giving a three-working-day deadline and demanded an immediate decision regarding the High-Impact Project (HiT Project).
The students have urged for a final decision on these matters promptly.
