The government has formed new university by seven colleges, and officially named ‘Dhaka Central University.’
This decision was finalised in a meeting of the University Grants Commission (UGC) on Sunday (March 16).
A 32-member student delegation participated in the meeting alongside the committee formed by the Ministry of Education.
After the meeting, Mohammad Jamal Uddin, Deputy Director of UGC’s Public University Management Division, informed reporters that the UGC Chairman confirmed the name ‘Dhaka Central University.’
When asked about the timeline for the university’s operations, Jamal Uddin stated that the name has just been decided. Legal procedures will follow, and the law needs to be passed in Parliament before the formation process begins.
The entire academic process may take until 2031 to commence.
Regarding the continuation of classes and exams for students at the seven colleges before the university starts functioning, Jamal Uddin explained that the students will still be enrolled under Dhaka University (DU) this year. DU will continue to manage the colleges through a new administrative law.
