Bashundhara Public School marks Pahela Baishakh with vibrant festivities

Bashundhara Public School and College (BPSC) celebrated the Bengali New Year 1432 with vibrant festivities, marking the first occasion where students and their guardians joined the celebration since the institution’s founding.

On Monday, the BPSC campus in Dhaka’s Bashundhara residential area came alive with color and cheer as students, teachers, and parents embraced the spirit of Pahela Baishakh together.

The day began with a lively procession, featuring teachers and students in traditional attire. The parade started from the school premises, passed the Bashundhara Kings Arena, and returned, showcasing vibrant placards, festoons, and traditional Baishakhi elements. The beat of dhak-dhol and the rhythm of folk songs added to the festive ambiance.

Baisakhi Fair was inaugurated in the school premises. The fair featured various traditional folk games and entertainment for the students. Of particular note were horse carts, viewing of the bioscope and the Nagardola. The little boys and girls were delighted with these arrangements.

In addition, various food stalls were set up at the fair, where traditional Bengali cultural dishes were served.

"I feel very good today. I rode a horse cart, climbed the Nagardola. I am having a lot of fun with my friends. I am very happy to have come to the Baisakhi Fair,” says Shaira Rownaf, a student of the school.

A parent, Rokaiya Islam, has mentioned that the Baishakhi initiative of the school is really commendable. “My children are very happy. Through such arrangements, the new generation will be able to learn about our culture and will be interested in it,” she said.

Songs, dances and poetry recitations are also organized in this day-long Baisakhi festival. The students of the school participate in cultural programs and showcase their talents. Teachers also participated in various performances and encouraged the students.

Regarding the first celebration of Baishakh, BPSC Principal Brig Gen (Retd) Md. Anisur Rahman said that students and teachers are participating in a cultural program of Baishakh.

“Students from our Bashundhara Special Children School are also participating here. We had a joy rally about all the things that are part of Bengali culture. Our arrangements started with the rally, then we inaugurated the fair,” he said.

The principal mentioned that the purpose of organising this fair is so that students can understand our culture and tradition and enjoy it themselves.

“We have tried to bring here the culture of our Bengal, the songs of Bengal, the things that we used to sing before. We are trying to create a bond between that era and this era with the children,” he added.
