Pool teachers getting job on condition

DHAKA: At last the difficulties of the appointment of primary school teachers’ pool is going to solve with some conditions.

Primary and Mass Education Minister Mostafizur Rahman told banglanews that the pool teachers will be appointed temporarily for six months and a policy has been formulated in this connection. The process the appointment will be began soon.

Teachers will be appointed on the basis of a monthly salary of Tk 6,000 as stand-by teachers to fill the shortage created every year from leaves of absence due to professional training, medical leave, maternity leave, casual and earned leave or retirement.

Under the Primary Teacher Poll policy-2014, a pool teacher will not enjoy any holiday but public holidays.

Earlier on August 14, 2012, the primary education directorate published results of the recruitment of government primary assistant teachers.

The Primary Education ministry recommended the appointment of 12,701 teachers and the creation of upazila-based pool of teachers with 15,019 successful candidates to meet shortage of the teachers in government primary schools.

Ministry officials said a vast number of teaching posts fall vacant for a temporary but significant amount of time, hampering the studies of the students.

Every year, an average of 20,000 teachers from government, non-government registered and community primary schools take part in the yearlong `Certificate in Education` (C-in-Ed) training, showed ministry statistics.

Teachers are immediately required to fill in the vacant positions but a full recruitment process takes time and such positions cannot be filled in immediately. So if there is a teacher’s pool for 10 percent keeps stand-by, it will help to meet teacher shortage, officials said.

According to the policy the teachers’ pool would be set up with people who had passed the test but had not been appointed and duration of a pool would span six months but the government can extend the duration if required.

The pool will automatically be dissolved after filling in vacant posts of 10 per cent leave reserve positions. The total number of people in the pool would not exceed 20,000.

Pool management committees will be set up in each upazila and they will be responsible for the appointment and monitoring, according to the conditions.
