Higher education becomes tool for business: Foreign Minister

CHITTAGONG: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni Saturday observed that higher education has become a tool for business when everyone gets into a rate race to get a job and earn money on completion of academic career.

But everybody should give emphasis on searching for truth in the light of real education, she said.

The Foreign Minister made the remarks at the 2nd convocation of the Asian University for Women organized by its Access Academy at Chittagong Club.

Urging the backward women to be a part of social change she said the womenfolk should not remain confined as part of a problem in the age of change rather they should be part of a solution.

The FM said, "The Asian University for Women has been teaching on women’s rights, freedom, early marriage, gender discrimination, breaking the tradition, which helps the students attain knowledge of giving leadership to society."

A total of 137 students of 12 countries, including Bangladesh, India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, were awarded certificate of Access Academy at the convocation.

State Minister for Forest and Environment Dr Hasan Mahmud also spoke at the programme with Vice-chancellor of the university Kamal Ahmed in the chair.
