UGC ‘corrupted’ official suspended

DHAKA: The authorities of University Grants Commission (UGC) suspended its additional director Ferdous Zaman for his alleged involvement in taking bribe.

The UGC issued a press release in this regard on Monday afternoon.

On July 13, banglanews published a report about the controversial activities and corruption of the UGC official Zaman.

On June 30, Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) published a report about the corruption and irregularities in private universities.

According to the report, the education ministry and UGC asked to the universities for further information.

Consequence of that, Britania University informed the ministry about Zaman’s misdeed.

Regarding the allegation and according to the section 11 (1) of “The Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules 1985”, he was suspended from the commission.

A three-member committee was formed led by UGC member professor Dr Atful Hye Shibli. Two other members are UGC members Dr Abul Hashem and Dr M Akhter Hossain.
