DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid said the questions on pass-rate of Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) examinations would not be a modern one as the teachers teaches their students for pass, not for fail.

The education minister came up with the assertion in a press briefing in the ministry’s secretariat office on Wednesday after publishing the results of HSC and equivalent examinations.

This year’s HSC overall pass-rate is 78.33 percent, a 4.03% higher than the previous year. This year’s results also witnessed a rise of the highest grade GPA-5 scorers, with a total of 70,602 students.

The minister, being accompanied by the chairmen of the education boards, handed over the copies of the result to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at Ganobhaban in the city 10:00am on Wednesday.

Nahid also told journalists: “The result has gradually been improving as we have introduced modern technology, creative (Sirijanshil) system and proper training of the teachers.”

The system to telecast some classes of English and Math taught by famous teachers also helped to improve the result, he added.

Earlier, the probe committee found evidences regarding the question paper leaks of Math 2nd paper and English 2nd paper in this year’s HSC examinations.

The minister further claimed that the question leak incident did not make any affect on the result.

Education secretary Mohammad Shadik, additional secretaries Sohrab Hossain and SA Mahmud and director general Fahima Khatun of Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education, among others, were present at the briefing.
