80.5% children finish pry education

DHAKA: The ‘Millennium Development Goals: Bangladesh Progress Report-2013’ shows that 80.5 percent of the country’s total children finish primary education.

Planning Commission’s General Economic Division (GED) member Dr. Shamshul Alam revealed the data at the lunching ceremony of the report at NEC-2 conference room at the commission on Sunday morning.

Reading out the keynote paper, Shamsul said, the quality of primary and secondary education has been increased; process has begun to introduce pre-school activities with formal education.

Admission rate is 97.3 percent at the primary education – 96.2 percent is male and 98.2 percent is female.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith, Planning Minster AHM Mustafa Kamal, Prime Minister’s economic affairs adviser Dr. Moshiur Rahman, Planning Division Secretary Bhuiyan Shafiqul Islam and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)’s resident representative Pauline Tamesis, among others, were present.
