Cent percent textbook arrival by 2/3 days

DHAKA: The authorities concerned have already sent the textbooks for secondary schools to all upazilas and need more two or three days to deliver the books for primary-level countrywide.

Some days will also be required to ensure textbooks arrival in all schools of the country. As a result, a portion of students is unlikely to receive their books on January 1, 2015, to be celebrated as 'Textbook Festival Day'.

Sources of National Curriculum and Textbook Board Bangladesh (NCTB) said sending 1 or 2 percent of textbook is still incomplete. It is expected to be done within one or two days.

Meanwhile, 90 percent of textbooks have already been arrived in the upazilas, AKM Jahangir Hossain, member of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Ministry of Primary and Mass Education told banglanews on Tuesday.

He added rest 10 percent will be sent to the areas before January 1.

On Wednesday, NCTB chairman Abul Kashem Miah told banglanews, a total of 326,347,000 textbooks were printed for 4.44 crore students this year.

Only 1-2 percents of books have to be sent by Thursday or Friday, he said.

According to the sources of primary and mass education ministry, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will inaugurate the 'Textbook Festival Day' on January 1, by handing over new books to the students.

However, standing committee member Jahangir admitted that timely arrival of textbooks for pre-primary schools will be a bit difficult.

‘But, the cent percent arrival of books will be complete within January 10, 2015,’ he added.

According to Jahangir, as admission for pre-primary level begins on January 1 and continues till March 30, it (late delivery) will not create any trouble.

Moreover, the committee asked the authorities concerned to send the books by January 1, he added.

Meanwhile, the NCTB chairman admitted their faults regarding timely delivery of textbooks saying that as this is a large-sale activity, some mistakes may happen.

All books will be arrived in each upazila within a couple of days, he hoped.
