Career Summit held at British Council

DHAKA: The British Council Services for International Education Marketing (SIEM) organized a ‘Career Summit’ on November 21 on Fuller Road in city.

The daylong summit provided an opportunity to returned graduates from UK to explore their career opportunities in Bangladesh by connecting them to renowned organizations from diverse industries in the country.

Representatives from Unilever, Robi, HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank, BRAC Bank, Maxwell Stamp, CONSUMARK, DFID and other leading organizations were present at the event, said a British Council press release.

A large number of current and aspiring Bangladeshi professionals are alumni of prestigious higher education institutions in the UK.

Returning to Bangladesh, they are looking forward to build a lasting career in the country.

The ‘Career Summit’ aimed to support them towards further professional development, and to provide employers a platform to hire deserving UK graduates through one-on-one interviews.

Candidates were assessed and graded by the potential employers based on their current competencies i.e. field of study, salary expectation, previous experience, extracurricular activities, IT skills, English proficiencies and references from their educational institutions.

The ‘Career Summit’ also hosted plenary sessions and different parallel sessions conducted by HR specialists, UK delegate, Alumni and HR of British Council on topics related to employability such as job oriented course specifications, CV writing, facing an interview, etc, the release added.

Operating in Dhaka since 1951, the British Council offers a wide range of services and activities across Bangladesh through their offices in Dhaka, Chittagong and Sylhet.

Focusing on four key areas – English, education, society and the arts – the organization works with students and young professionals; society and community leaders; and influencers including career professionals, the media, educators, artists, scientists and business leaders.

The British Council’s library currently has more than 6,000 members.

The ‘Career Summit’ is one of British Council’s continuing endeavors to contribute to the educational and economic sectors in Bangladesh.
