Be volunteer before asking for education’s quality: PM

DHAKA: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Saturday (December 31) criticized the people who talked about the quality of the educational system in Bangladesh.

“The people who are not satisfied with the educational system should come forward to provide volunteer service first then give advice.”

The premier also asked, “What is the standard of education’s quality?”

Sheikh Hasina made the remarks after inaugurating the program, organized at Ganabhaban, of distributing free textbooks among students of schools, madrasa and vocational institutes in the morning.

Hasina said it was not possible to develop the educational sector quickly. “It is a continuous process. We have been working with that end.”

“We want to ensure that all the students are attending examinations and that is why we have introduced Primary Completion Examination (PEC) and Junior School Certificate (JSC) and equivalents exams. But, people made both these terminal exams controversial.”

She also remarked that students are getting more courageous to face exams through attending PEC and JSC examinations.

Day by day, the rate of passing is increasing, she added.

“There was a time when teachers used to select a few students and took care of them for the scholarship exams. Those selected students used to get tiffin. But, there could be students with potentiality among the one’s who were left out.”

“We introduced the new system to eradicate these sorts of problem,” Hasina added.
