RAJSHAHI: University of Rajshahi (RU) on Saturday (Sept 29) held its much-awaited 10th convocation ceremony amid much festivity and fanfare.

University students, parents and well-wishers attended the event which started around 5pm.

President Abdul Hamid, Chancellor of RU, presided over the ceremony. 

He underscored the need of honest and competent leadership, to strengthen the foundation of democracy.

He urged the graduates to play progressive role, to fulfill the desire of the nation by using their brilliance and works.

A total of 6,014 graduates were expected to participate in the event.

Eminent litterateurs Hasan Azizul Huq and Selina Hossain were conferred D Litt (Doctor of Letters), for their distinctive contribution to Bangla literature.

However, RU VC Prof M Abdus Sobhan delivered the keynote speech, while Treasurer Prof Mostafizur Rahman Al Arif delivered the welcome speech.

Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid spoke the ceremony as the chief guest.

Chittagong University (CU) former VC Prof Emeritus Alamgir Mohmmad Sirajuddin addressed the occasion, as the convocation speaker.

A cultural event was arranged at the stadium on RU campus, after the convocation.
