DHAKA: The VC of the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) is set to hold a meeting with protesting students over the murder of fellow student Abrar Fahad.

Vice-chancellor Prof Saiful Islam is likely to sit with the protesters at 5pm on Friday (Oct 11),  Professor Mizanur Rahman, student welfare director of the university, confirmed the matter to Banglanews on Thursday (October 10) night.

Protesting student Soumen Sikder said, "We will hold a press conference at 10 am prior to the meeting with the Vice-Chancellor.

Earlier on Thursday, the demonstrators threatened to lock the gates of all the offices on the campus if the VC does not meet them by 2pm on Friday and agreed to fulfill their 10-point demand over Fahad murder.

They also threatened to stop the Buet admission tests scheduled for October 14 if the academic council do not issue any statement postponing the tests by 5:00pm Friday.

Abrar Fahad, a second year student of Electrical and Electronic Engineering of BUET was allegedly beaten to death at his dorm Sher-e-Bangla Hall early Monday (Oct 7).

The body of Fahad was found lying between the first and second floors of Sher Bangla Hall.

Later on that day, police arrested 10 BCL leaders of its Buet unit over the alleged involvement in the killing of fellow student Abrar Fahad. 

On Tuesday (Oct 8), a Dhaka court placed ten leaders of BCL on a five-day remand and fixed November 13 for submission of probe report of the case filed over the murder of Abrar Fahad.

Later on Thursday (Oct 10), Ifti Mosharraf Sakal, one of the key accused in BUET student Abrar Fahad murder case, has confessed to his involvement in the murder.
