As previous years, the distribution of textbooks among students from Class VI to IX began on the first day of the New Year.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated the free textbook distribution process through a video conferencing from her official residence Ganabhaban on Thursday.

The book distribution ceremony was held at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the city.

However, book festivals will not be held this year like every year due to the coronavirus.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic, the government had already taken all-out measures to distribute new textbooks among 4.5 crore students of the primary and secondary levels free of cost on the first day of the New Year.

To avoid any kind of gathering, books will be handed over to students at their respective educational institutions in 12 days.
