Legendary actor and Member of Parliament, Akbar Hossain Pathan (Farooque) passed away earlier today.

The valiant freedom fighter breathed his last at Mount Elizabeth Hospital while undergoing treatment around 8:30am.

He was under treatment in the hospital for two years.

The actor’s niece Asma Pathan Rumpa confirmed the matter. 

His body will be brought to Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

Farooq came on the big screen through the movie 'Jalchhabi' directed by H Akbar. He won the National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1975 for his performance. In 2016, he was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award.
