Actress Shomi Kaiser and Chairman of the private entertainment channel Gaan Bangla Kawshik Hossain Taposh were sent to jail following the conclusion of their remand in an attempted murder case filed at Uttara Purba Thana.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate GM Farhan Ishtiaq, after hearing arguments from both sides, ordered their transfer to Dhaka Central Jail today (November 9).

Sub-Inspector Mrittunjoy Pandit Mithun of Uttara Purba Thana, who is also the Investigation Officer of the case, presented the accused before the court, requesting their detention in jail custody until the investigation is completed.

Lawyers of the accused moved separate petitions seeking bail to both the accused while the prosecution side opposed the bail petitions.

After hearing the arguments of both the sides, the MM ordered to send them to jail.

Police on November 3 arrested Kawshick Hossain Taposh from city ‘s Vatara area and Shami Kawser was arrested from Uttara area on November 5 for their suspected involvement in an attack on businessman Ishtiaq Mahmud and others on July 18 last.

Ishtiaq Mahmud received critical bullet wounds in his belly, hand, head and legs during the attack by police, Awami League cadres in front of Nawab Habibullah High School at Uttara sector-4 while he along with his friends, guardians and local people took part in an agitation programme enforced by anti-discrimination students’ movement on that day.

He was first taken to a nearby hospital from where shifted to Evercare Hospital for better treatment.

Ishtiaq Mahmud later filed a case with Uttara Purba Thana accusing 126 people including former inspector general of police (IGP) Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on October 29.
