Actress Mehazabien Chowdhury found herself at the center of controversy on December 17, when she unintentionally covered the graffiti memorializing Sohagi Jahan Tonu, a rape and murder victim, while promoting her upcoming film Priyo Maloti at Dhaka's TSC.
During the campaign, a poster was mistakenly placed over the memorial, sparking backlash on social media.
Responding to the criticism, Mehazabien apologized and returned to TSC to remove the poster. In a Facebook post, she explained that the incident was a result of rushed planning and expressed regret for the mistake. She emphasized that the film’s core message is about justice and hoped for forgiveness for the unintentional act.
Many fans accepted her apology, but the incident highlighted the need for sensitivity when promoting events in spaces with historical significance.
