DHAKA: A Dhaka court granted permanent bail to actress Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, who was behind the bars in a case filed under ICT Act on charge of spreading rumor during the road safety protests in Aug, 2018.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Mohammad Didar Hossain passed the order after a hearing held by lawyer Imrul Kawsar on Tuesday (Jan 15).

Besides, March 3 was fixed for submission of the investigation report.

Quazi Nawshaba Ahmed, mostly famous for her appearance in Bangladesh’s first-ever cop action thriller Dhaka Attack (2017), was arrested by Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) from Dhaka’s Uttara on Aug 4, 2018 on charge of spreading rumors using Facebook Live option during the road safety movement staged by students.

In the video, she urged people to “save the students from attacks” claiming that two students were killed. She also said that attackers gouged out a student’s eyes. 

She urged her Facebook friends to “come forward in saving the children.”

She was later handed over to Uttara West Police Station on the next day after taking her to RAB-1 office for interrogation.

On Aug 13, a Dhaka court ordered to send Nawshaba to jail, rejecting a bail plea after completion of remand in two phases.

The actress was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) under police custody on the same day as she was suffering from various physical problems including dysentery. 

She was diagnosed with complications in her spinal cord and troubled walking, said the physician.

After treatment at DMCH for several days, she was produced before a metropolitan magistrate court on Aug 20. The court sent Nawshaba to jail after rejecting another bail plea.
