FDEE looking into Dhaka Elevated Expressway project workers' allegations

The First Dhaka Elevated Expressway (FDEE) Company Limited has decided to look into the allegation of Dhaka Elevated Expressway project workers regarding their arrears and take necessary measures accordingly.

The FDEE issued a press release in this regard on Wednesday (Sep 21).

“We would like to clarify that FDEE is up to date on its payments to the sub-contractors, and we have been informed that the sub-contractors have already made payment of due salaries to the three employment agencies involved in contracting the workers,” said the press release.

“We are looking into the matter to ascertain where payments have been stalled,” it added.

The releases said that we have also heard accusations that certain managers mistreated some of the workers; these are grave allegations, and we make resolution of such complaints our highest priority.

“We are investigating the allegations and working towards verifying these claims; based on our findings, we will ensure that those found perpetrating such acts are immediately penalized, and the workers affected by these acts are provided reparations,” it added.

It further said that the situation over the mistreatment of workers and outstanding wages is extremely unfortunate; FDEE has taken the matters into its cognizance and is coordinating with its sub-contractors and the labour employment agencies to ensure that the grievances of the workers are addressed at the earliest.

“Ensuring that all parties involved in the Expressway Project are consistently compliant with labour laws and uphold good working standards is pivotal to us, and we remain committed to safeguarding the welfare of workers employed for the Project,” the release also said.

On September 20, the workers working under the ongoing Dhaka Elevated Expressway project staged demonstration at Tejgaon in Bangladesh capital Dhaka for three hours demanding arrears.
