Bailey Road fire: 12 patients at risk, says Health Minister

Health Minister Dr. Samanta Lal Sen today (Mar 1) said the condition of the 12 injured people who were admitted to hospital last night over Bailey Road fire incident is at risk.

He said after inspecting the condition of the patients admitted to Dhaka medical college and hospital and Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery this morning.

The Minister said, “The tragic incident that happened was not at all desirable. According to our knowledge, 46 people have died in this incident so far. They died of carbon monoxide poisoning.”

“Those who are still in the hospital are not safe,” he said. 

“We are treating the injured since morning. Now again I will sit with our doctors. I will sit and plan, what to do. Everyone is requested not to rush to the hospital,” he added.

At least 46 people died in the devastating fire that erupted at a commercial building in the capital’s Bailey Road on Thursday night.

According to Fire Service and Civil Defence (FSCD) headquarters they received the news of the fire at Kachchi Bhai Restaurant at 9:50pm and rushed to the spot with eight units of firefighters at 9:56pm. Later, four more units joined them.

A total of twelve fire engines brought the blaze under control at Green Cozy Cottage Shopping Mall at 11:50pm.
