The daylong National Vitamin A-plus campaign has begun today (June 1), aiming to administer capsules to over 22.2 million children aged six to 59 months.
Starting at 8am on Saturday, June 1, and running until 4pm, the campaign focuses on preventing blindness in children, promoting normal growth, and reducing child mortality rates by 24%. It also significantly lowers death rates from measles, diarrhea, and pneumonia.
As part of the campaign, 2.7 million children aged six to 11 months will receive blue vitamin A-plus capsules, while 19.5 million children aged 12 to 59 months will receive red capsules.
Health experts emphasize that vitamin A deficiency is a serious threat to the health of both mothers and children. It not only causes blindness but also increases the risk of death from various diseases.
