DHAKA: The authorities of Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute opened modern eye Operation Theater on Friday with a view to providing eye care to under-privileged people at free of cost.

Founder chairman of Bashudhara Islamic Research Centre Faqihul Millat Mufti Abdur Rahman inaugurated the Operation Theater after Doa Mahfil.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan and Additional Managing Director Safwan Sobhan were also present in the inauguration programme.

The six-storey hospital building is situated at D-block of Bashudhara Residential Area in city.

Noted eye specialist and president of Vision Care Foundation Professor Dr M Saleh Ahmed said Bashundhara Eye Hospital and Research Institute is a non-profit voluntary organization jointly ventured by Bashudhara Group and Vision Care Foundation.

The Hospital has been giving modern eye care with modern diagnostic opportunity and special equipments since April of this year.

Dr Saleh further said the hospital will provide better services with the newly inaugurated Operation Theater.

The hospital also contains Cataract Clinic, Cornea Clinic, Vitreous Retina Clinic, Glaucoma Clinic, Orbit and Oculoplasty Clinic, Pediatric Ophthalmology Clinic, Neuro Ophthalmology Clinic, Contact Lens Clinic, Low Vision Aid (Vision Therapy), X-ray and Imaging, Diagnostic Laboratory, Perimetry, B-scan Ultra Sound, Biometry and Pachymetry services.

Sources said for the first time in Bangladesh, the hospital is providing Spectacles facilities with the collaboration of FFA, ICG and OCT. They are also giving UBM service for Angel Assessment of Glaucoma.

The hospital also provides green, YAG and SLT Laser treatments, the sources added.

Terming Bashudhara Residential Project as only of its kind in the country, Mufti Abdur Rahman prayed for increase of Bashunshara’s donation for the service of Islam.

Bashundhara Group Chairman Ahmed Akbar Sobhan said, “Around 200,000 people of the country become blind in the country every year due to lack of medical treatment. We want to serve those people with modern equipments.”

“We will build five more buildings for the hospital, if necessary. We have to ensure the service for the under-privileged people first as service for humanity is service for Islam”, he added.

Dr Saleh said with the current facilities around 20-50 operations can be performed in the hospital in a day. A total of 18 patients can take treatment in nine cabins at a time.

The authorities of the hospital will also provide transport facilities to bring patients from remote areas if needed, he added.
