DHAKA: Experts at a function said that joint effort of the government and private sector might treat only five percent of total kidney patients of the country whereas making people aware about it effectively and timely can prevent 60 percent of the disease.
Terming the kidney disease as a silent killer all over the world, the speakers stressed effective and combined effort comprising of the GOs and NGOs, private sector initiative and voluntary services for creating widespread awareness for getting rid of the harmful disease.
The remarks came up in a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signing ceremony between the voluntary organization Kidney Awareness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) and International Child Development Foundation (ICDF) at a city hotel Friday night.
The MoU was signed with the objectives to work together to make aware the students of school and colleges for changing lifestyle and food habit in view to keep their health sound.
Chairman of KAMPS Professor Dr. MA Samad, also eminent Kidney specialist, and chairman of ICDF, Afroza Begum Happy signed the MoU on behalf of their respective organizations.
Addressing the event, Prof. MA Samad mentioned that neglecting childhood physical problems may cause serious illness in course of time and it may keep tremendous negative impact over the future generation both economically and socially.
He said at least 63 percent death are caused nowadays, by the non-communicable disease where as its possible to prevent most of it through changing lifestyle, regular exercise, food habit etc.
“In some particular fields the KAMPS and ICDF will work jointly and the effective implementation of the project will result into remarkable and visible progress in curbing the kidney disease in the country”, Prof. Samad hoped.
ICDF chairman Afroza Begum Happy expressed to keep all-out effort from the ICDF to timely and successful implementation of the project.
Professor MA Samad presided over the ceremony while Naqibul Islam Chowdhury moderated.
Assistant Professor of Shahabuddin Medical College and Hospital, Dr. Syed Tanveer, vice-chairman of ICDF, Major (Retd) Dr. Sheikh Habibur Rahman, General Manager of KAMPS, SM Mahiuddin, secretary of ICDF, Mir Mosharraf Hossain Ami, Dr. Nijam, Organising Secretary of KAMPS and Md Alamin also spoke on the occasion.
A distinct committee comprising of members from both KAMPS and ICDF has been formed to execute the works of ‘KAMPS-ICDH Kidney School’ with Naqibul Islam Chpowhury as CEO, SM Mahiuddin as Project Director, Md Ayub Hosain as Assistant Project Director.
