DHAKA: Around two crore people in Bangladesh are kidney patients. Among them, only ten percent people can take medical treatment due to its higher expenditure.

Speakers made this disclosure at a roundtable discussion held at National Press Club in city on Saturday (March 5).

Kidney Awarness Monitoring and Prevention Society (KAMPS) arranged the discussion titled ‘Prevention of kidney diseases for children’ to mark World Kidney Day.

KAMPS president Dr MA Samad as chief guest told the audience that the global rate of kidney patients is higher than the other diseases.

‘Around 2-cr people in Bangladesh are patients of kidney diseases. Only ten percent of them can manage the expenditure of medical treatment.’

‘Most of the patients die from kidney diseases due to the lack of money,’ he added.

According to him, about 68 percent death risk can be prevented by changing lifestyle.

‘At least 30 minutes walk, having sufficient amount of fruits and keeping weight under control can present kidney diseases,’ the expert said.

Kidney Foundation president Dr Harun-or-Rashid, Bangladesh Cricket Team former captain Gazi Ashraf Hossain Lipu and Ganasasthya Kendra Trustee’s Dr Zafrullah Chowdhury and Social Islami Bank manager Mohammad Shafiqur Rahman, among others, were present at the discussion.
