DHAKA: The High Court has ordered authorities concerned for the formation of a committee comprising of experts and stakeholders within a month to formulate guidelines to prevent unnecessary Caesarian section.

The committee will get six months time to formulate a policy and submit it to the High Court, it also stated.

A bench of Justice Moinul Islam Chowdhury and Justice Md Ashraful Kamal on Sunday (June 30) gave the order and issued a rule after hearing a writ petition filed in public interest.

The court fixed December 5 for the further order in this regard.

Barrister Rashna Imam moved for the petition in the courtroom.

Earlier on June 25, a writ petition was flied seeking High Court directives against unnecessary caesarean section for delivering babies at hospitals and clinics across the country.

Supreme Court lawyer Barrister Syed Sayedul Haque Suman submitted the petition seeking a HC rule asking the government to explain why its inaction to stop unnecessary C-section of pregnant mothers should not be declared illegal.
