DHAKA: At least two people were shot dead and seven others wounded when a gunman opened fire on Wednesday evening at a busy intersection outside a barbershop in Detroit, police said.

The barbershop where the shooting happened has a reputation for gambling, but it was too early to tell whether that played a role in the shooting, Detroit Police Chief James Craig told reporters, The Jerusalem Post publishes this report on Thursday.

Police had said previously that three people were killed in the shooting, but later said they could only confirm two fatalities. Craig said police were looking for at least one gunman and possibly a second.

John Zakar, 26, said he was working at the Riviera Party Shoppe when he heard about 20 shots ring out about a block away and three wounded people ran into his store and hid.

‘I locked the door behind them and applied pressure to the wounds,’ Zakar said in a telephone interview. ‘We didn’t let the people shooting come in and shoot’.

The shooting happened on Detroit’s east side at about 6:15pm EST, police spokeswoman Kelly Miner said.
