KOLKATA: The Indian government is going to take control over the prices of cancer medicine as these are considered lifesaving essential drugs.

Officials said the government has also taken an initiative to put those medicines on the list of ‘national essential medicines’.

Indian Health Ministry sources said according to the Drug Act 1995, those drugs would be put on the list no. 1.

“The government is also having talks with different medicine-manufacturing companies on reducing production and marketing costs for the sake of poor patients,” said one source.
