Bangladeshi restaurant in Queens comes under gun attack

A gunman shot an employee inside a Bangladeshi restaurant in Queens, New York on Saturday.

The incident took place inside a restaurant named “Boishakhi Restaurant” near 36th Avenue and 29th Street in Astoria around 3:30pm.

Surveillance video from the restaurant shows people, including kids, eating and waiting for food, running out of the store, and ducking for cover after a gunman opened fire, reports CBS News.

The gunman, in a red hoodie, fired off several rounds, the video shows.

In the video, a man steps away from the gunman and is seen dragging a child and a woman down a nearby staircase to safety, reports the New York Times.

One male victim, 35, was shot at the Bangladeshi restaurant, local police said.

The restaurant owner Abu Taher told CBS that the gunman fired three shots, and at one point, even went behind the counter.

"He didn't say anything. He just came and shot and ran away," Taher said.

One bullet hit an employee in the upper thigh, he added.

Taher also said: "I'm really scared to run a small business in New York City. It's not safe, actually. We are not safe. Our life is not safe."

While the motive is still being investigated, sources say the gunman got into an argument with an employee in the store earlier in the week.

Police are reviewing surveillance video as they continue to search for the gunman.
