At least five children were killed in an overnight Israeli airstrike on Gaza City, with eight family members still trapped under the rubble, Al Jazeera’s correspondent in Gaza has reported.
Meanwhile, the Turkish-Palestinian Friendship Hospital, Gaza’s only specialised cancer treatment centre, has been completely destroyed.
The Health Ministry in Gaza condemned the attack as a “heinous crime.”
The United Nations human rights office has expressed alarm over the escalating violence, reporting that at least 200 children and more than 110 women have been killed in Israel’s latest offensive on Gaza this week.
The death toll continues to climb following Israel’s decision to end a ceasefire on Tuesday. According to Gaza’s Health Ministry, at least 49,617 Palestinians have been killed and 112,950 wounded since the start of the conflict. Gaza’s Government Media Office has placed the total death toll at more than 61,700, stating that thousands remain buried under the rubble and are presumed dead.
The conflict was reignited after the Hamas-led October 7 attacks on Israel, which killed at least 1,139 people and saw more than 200 taken captive.
