Pakistan condemns India’s attack, vows strong response

The National Security Committee (NSC) of Pakistan convened under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif to address the grave developments arising from India's unprovoked and unlawful act of aggression.

NSC has expressed deep sorrow for the innocent civilians martyred in India's missile, air, and drone strikes, extending heartfelt condolences to their families and wishing a swift recovery to the injured.

The committee deliberated on the Indian Armed Forces' coordinated attacks on Pakistan’s sovereign territory during the night of May 6-7, 2025. Indian forces launched missile, air, and drone strikes on multiple locations in Punjab, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, including Sialkot, Shakargarh, Muridke, Bahawalpur, Kotli, and Muzaffarabad. These strikes, Pakistan claims, deliberately targeted civilian areas under the false pretext of the presence of terrorist camps.

As a result of the attacks, innocent men, women, and children were martyred, and significant damage was inflicted on civilian infrastructure, including mosques. The strikes also endangered the lives of passengers aboard commercial airlines belonging to Gulf countries, as well as deliberately targeting the Neelum-Jhelum Hydropower Project, violating international conventions.

The NSC unequivocally condemned India's actions as blatant violations of Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity, which constitute acts of war under international law. The committee further stated that the deliberate targeting of civilians, including innocent women and children, is a heinous crime that violates all norms of human behavior and international law.

Pakistan also reiterated its rejection of India’s unfounded allegations about the presence of terrorist camps on Pakistani soil. Despite these baseless claims, Pakistan offered a sincere proposal for a credible and neutral investigation following the April 22, 2025 attack, which India declined. Furthermore, international media had already visited the alleged "terrorist camps" on May 6, and additional visits were planned for May 7, but India, fearing exposure of its falsehoods, escalated its aggression by attacking civilian targets instead.

The NSC stressed that such actions are neither tolerable nor acceptable. India, driven by its delusional thoughts and shortsighted political objectives, has ignited a dangerous inferno in the region, with the consequences squarely on India’s shoulders. Pakistan firmly rejected India’s actions and vowed to defend its territorial integrity.

In response to the Indian aggression, Pakistan’s Armed Forces defended the country’s sovereignty, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir, under the right of self-defense as outlined in the NSC’s statement of April 22, 2025. Pakistani forces successfully downed five Indian fighter aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles during the confrontation.

Pakistan, in line with Article 51 of the United Nations Charter, reserves the right to respond in self-defense at a time, place, and manner of its choosing, in order to avenge the loss of innocent lives and the violation of its sovereignty. The Armed Forces of Pakistan have been authorized to take appropriate actions in this regard.

The Pakistani nation, deeply anguished by India’s aggression, expressed admiration for the bravery and courage of its Armed Forces, praising their timely action in defending the homeland. The nation stands united and resolute in the face of any further aggression.

The NSC also called on the international community to recognize the gravity of India’s illegal actions and hold it accountable for its blatant violations of international norms and laws. Pakistan remains committed to peace, with dignity and honor, but emphasized it will not allow any further violations of its sovereignty, territorial integrity, or harm to its proud people.
