At least 24 Palestinians were killed overnight in two separate Israeli airstrikes across Gaza, according to local medics and officials from the Hamas-run Civil Defence.
Among the dead were families taking refuge in a school that had been turned into a shelter.
The Fahmi Al-Jargawi School in Gaza City, which housed hundreds displaced by ongoing military operations in northern Beit Lahia, was hit during the night.
Civil Defence sources confirmed the recovery of 20 charred bodies from the school, including several children. Witnesses reported classrooms engulfed in flames following the strike.
"Flames were everywhere. I saw charred bodies lying on the ground," said Rami Rafiq, a resident living nearby. "My son fainted after witnessing the horrific scene."
Graphic videos circulated online showed fires tearing through the building and severely burned victims being pulled from the rubble.
Among those killed was Mohammad Al-Kasih, Hamas’ head of police investigations in northern Gaza, alongside his wife and children, local reports said.
Earlier that night, a separate airstrike on a home in central Gaza City killed four more people, according to the Hamas-run health ministry.
These attacks come amid a renewed Israeli military escalation in northern Gaza over the past week.
In a separate incident, an Israeli airstrike on Friday killed nine of Palestinian doctor Alaa al-Najjar’s 10 children at their home. Her husband remains in critical condition, while their 11-year-old son survived with injuries. The Israeli military said the event is under investigation.
Meanwhile, the International Committee of the Red Cross confirmed two staff members were killed in a strike on their home in Khan Younis, calling the death toll in Gaza "intolerable" and renewing calls for a ceasefire.
Efforts to deliver humanitarian aid remain severely hampered by Israeli restrictions, with the UN saying current supplies are far below the minimum needed.
