Saudi Arabia vows to create more jobs for women

DHAKA: Saudi Arabia will, in the coming days, announce more female-only jobs for more than one million unemployed women in the country.

Saudi media reported Sunday, gulfnews.com publishes this report on Monday.

The initiative is part of a plan to eliminate unemployment by 2025. The unemployment rate of the country now stands at around 11.7 percent, Al Eqtisadiya newspaper reported.

Certain actions will be taken with the ongoing growth of female jobseekers of the age group between 18 and 30, as the percentage increased from 28.4 percent in 2009 to 33.2 percent last year.

Undersecretary of the Labour Ministry Fahad Al Takhaifi said the oil-rich country has more than one million unemployed females.

To deal with the issue, jobs at women-related product shops have been allocated only for females last year, which alone provided jobs for more than 50,000 Saudi women, he added.
