DHAKA: Hours after Narendra Modi targeted the Gandhis on their turf, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate of insulting her father Rajiv.

‘On Amethi’s soil, they insulted the memory of my martyred father. The people of Amethi will never forgive them,’ she said this evening, reports NDTV.

While campaigning in Amethi earlier, Modi had said, ‘The Gandhis talk about my anger and they talk about how everyone follows Rajiv Gandhi’s vision. But the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, T Anjaiah, was humiliated for not receiving Rajiv Gandhi, who was then a party general secretary.’

Priyanka hit back, ‘My party workers at every polling booth will give a fitting answer to their petty politics. Every single booth will avenge this’.

Modi, the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate, also attacked Priyanka directly for the first time in Amethi, the constituency of her brother Rahul, who is also leading the Congress campaign for the national election.

‘Look at the arrogance of the Congress, one of their leaders says ‘Who is Smriti Irani?’, Modi said Monday.

‘When arrogance reaches its zenith, people lose basic courtesy. I’ll tell them who Smriti Irani is. She is my younger sister... and she is here to piece together Amethi from your sins.’

He was reacting to Priyanka responding with a dismissive ‘who?’ when reporters asked her Sunday about Smriti Irani.
