DHAKA: Arvind Kejriwal’s first night in Tihar was spent in jail number 4, where Anna Hazare was briefly lodged after his arrest in 2011.

Although the Aam Aadmi Party leader was detained several times as an activist, this is the first time he has been handed a stay in jail by a court, officials said, reports The Times of India.

The former CM-first in Delhi to see jail in a criminal case-has been kept in a high-security ward and isolated from other prisoners in the light of recent attacks on him. The jail officials will watch over him continuously for security reasons.

Kejriwal is known to practise Vipasana meditation, and coincidentally his ward (number 14) is known as ‘Vipasana Ward’ in Tihar.

The 16x10 sq feet ward has no TV, and only a fan and a bulb in the name of creature comforts. There is no cot either.

‘The jail has provided him a blanket, two bedsheets and a mat to sleep on. Bedding provided by his family has also been allowed,’ said Tihar’s chief PRO Sunil Gupta.

On Wednesday night, officials said Kejriwal ate the routine jail food of dal and roti, and did not ask for anything else.
