DHAKA: A roadside bomb has killed 12 civilians in eastern Afghanistan, officials have said.

Afghan provincial officials in Ghazni said two minivans hit a roadside bomb in Giro district, Al Jazeera publishes this reports without mentioning the date.

The passengers in the two vehicles were going to a wedding. The blast killed seven women, three children and two men, while a further five people were wounded.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attack.

Roadside bombings are a major threat to both Afghan security forces and civilians across the country.

Such attacks have escalated as the Taliban intensify their campaign ahead of the US-led foreign forces’ withdrawal by the end of 2014.
