DHAKA: A 69-year-old lady was allegedly raped and murdered by unknown culprits at Santa Cruz village near Panaji in Indian state of Goa on Saturday night.

The police said Monday, reports NDTV.

The lady was alone in her residence when the incident took place, said a police spokesperson adding that she may have been raped before allegedly being smothered to death. Police also suspect penetration could have been with a blunt object.

‘The incident occurred between Saturday night and Sunday morning,’ he said.

A complaint has been lodged by the lady’s nephew at the Old Goa police station, and a manhunt is on to trace the culprits.

Meanwhile a medical report is still awaited.
