British PM’s Ramadan greetings to Muslims

LONDON: British Prime Minister David Cameron extended Ramadan greetings to Muslims in Britain and throughout the world observing the holy month of Ramadan.

He said “This is an special time of year for Muslims at home and abroad: a time for charity, for contemplation and community.”

Charity is one of the things that Islam is all about. Here in Britain, Muslims are our biggest donors – they give more to charity than any other faith group, Cameron added.

According to the promise on October 30, 2013 in world Islamic Economic Forum conference, the British government issued Islamic sukuk (bonds) from the current week.

Britain has become the first western country to sell a five-year Islamic bond or "sukuk". The $340 million offering drew in orders of $3.9 billion which was more than ten times oversubscribed.

During the formal issuance of Islamic Bonds, UK Finance Minister George Osborne said. "I hope that the success of this government issuance will encourage further private sector issuances of sukuk in the UK."
