KOLKATA: A shameful, disgraceful, insensitive comment delivered a month back by the Trinamool Congress (TMC) MP Tapas Pal, had been telecast yesterday nation wide! An insult to all the country women!
Though he commented insensibly a month back, it has spread heated criticism all over India. The controversial comment triggered an uproar, and condemnation by the opposition, and they are demanding action against the TMC MP as earlier as possible.
The political furor is growing high demanding that the speaker should take an action, and that the MP should be sacked, and arrested.
MP's comment which went viral yesterday quoted him saying, "If any CPM man is present here, listen to me.
The party men makes the leader, and I will see to it that my workers remain at peace.
If you ever disturb, touch, kill any TMC worker, or their families at Choumaha, the same will be done with you people, and you guys will have to pay for this.
Do not try to act smart with me, I am smarter than you.
If you ever touch, or insult the mothers, and daughters of TMC workers then I won't spare you.
I will let loose my boys in your homes, and they will commit rape, teaching each of you a lesson."
However, the MP denied that he spoke about rape.
He said, "Few months back, Rafiqul Karigar, resident of Gopinathpur, got killed by the CPM workers, and his family went through assaults, and problems.
What I said was I will tell my workers to 'raid' there, not rape."
The MP's comment drew condemnation from many political, and social bodies within few hours of the telecast.
The National Commission for Women (NCW), demanded probe against Pal, saying he must be arrested.
NCW Chief said, "Why is aggressive Mamata Banerjee mum on this issue?
A person who can threaten about raping has no right to be in any party. It is a disgrace to democracy. Arrest him now!"
Nalin Kohli, BJP member, demanding immediate action against him, stated that, "How can he deliver such ruthless comments?!
This is disgusting, and unbearable! He has insulted all the women of the country."
Brinda Karat said, "Its shocking that West Bengal, Chief Minister, Mamata Banerjee, is taking no action!
Why is she inattentive towards making things up, and sacking the MP?"
Aparna Sen said, "I do not know this Tapas Pal, it seems he is an unknown to me. A new form of him."
"The issue is really scary, and that the comment of Pal shocks me terribly!" said Suchitra Bhattacharya. Kiran Bedi complained that, "Why isn't Tapas Pal arrested till now?!"
Shobha Oza said to the reporters that, "All this is shameful, intolerable. Law makers should suo moto cognizance of Pal's outburst, and disqualify him.
If till now, the Chief Minister is mum, and apathetic about handling this issue, I must say, she is insensitive to women issues!"
Party spokesman Derek O'Brien however stated, "The statements made by Mr.Tapas Pal are utterly insensitive.
The party does not in any way endorse what he said many weeks ago, which is being played out on TV channels. We will look after this issue, and make it up lawfully."
Pal's wife, Nandini Pal, apologized saying, "I apologize for his comment. Of course, there is no question of supporting it, but I know there is another part of the story which provoked him to do that.
The entire incident had happened long back, what led to such a thing there is another part of the story.
Though he should have keep his calm, and stopped the heated exchange of words. I am sorry on his behalf."
CPM leader Mohammad Salem, BJP Babul Supriyo, and Congress leaders, including TMC members are offended, and in disfavor with Tapas Pal now.
