Abduction fear grips BD expats in Malaysia

KUALA LUMPUR: The expatriate Bangladeshis are now in fear of abduction in Malaysia. It is learnt that the abductors have an attachment with local and influential foreign syndicates.

The expatriates are not free from anxious even complaining to embassy. The abductors are carrying on their mission by threatening.

There occurred two such incidents within a short spell at Georgetown in Malaysia’s Penang Island. One Bangladeshi was killed by a Myanmar citizen who identified himself as a Bangladeshi.

On the other hand, another Bangladeshi is hiding himself to save from another Bangladeshi syndicate.

However, one Bangladeshi received stab injury from an Indonesian.

The body of the slain Bangladeshi Hossain Elahi, 39, was recovered on last Sunday.

A group of Myanmar citizens abducted Elahi and Mujibur Rahman, 33 on last Thursday and demanded ransom of two lakh Ringgit.

Malaysian popular English daily ‘The Star’ reported that the Myanmar citizens in the identity of Bangladeshis are carrying on anti-social activities defaming the Bangladeshis.

Assistant Commissioner of Police of Northern Kuala Lumpur, Faridalatrash Wahid told ‘The Star’ that the dead body was recovered in an unclothed condition. Primarily it was thought that he was killed by hanging. For post mortem the body was sent to Penang hospital.

It is further learnt that on last Friday Elahi and his friend received an unknown phone call when the caller told them to talk for setting a kitchen cabinet.

Next they were taken to a flat. There they met three people. Each of them identified as police men. They then wanted to see their passports. At one stage, they claimed that those two passports were fake.

Then their eyes and hands were tied with ropes and were taken to a hill known as Yap Chore. Among the two abductees, Mujibur some how managed to escape on Saturday morning and reported to police. Police is now investigating the murder case.

In another incident Jabed Ahmed from Khulna became the victim of kidnapping. He has been in Malaysia for last five years.

Meanwhile, he came in contact with Munna in 2009. Due to contact they both have been working in Kuantan area. But Jabed did not get any money for working for last three years. He is being tortured whenever wants salary.

Besides, Jabed gave money and passport to Munna for doing permit in the last calling. But he did not get the permit still now. Rather he was beaten up whenever he wanted passport and money. When torture on him became unbearable he fled away from there three months ago and now staying at Subang.

Now, Jabed is unemployed. But the three kidnappers including Munna are now in jail custody. The accomplices of Munna are threatening Jabed off and on for killing him. Jabed has filed a case with Dang Wangi police.

On the other hand, one Bangladeshi at Pulau Tikas Burmah road of Georgetown has become victim of an Indonesian youth over love affairs. Once they were friends.

Both fell in love with a 32-year old Indonesian woman working in a coffee shop. On the day of occurrence, both started scuffling over the Indonesian women and at one stage the Indonesian youth stabbed the Bangladeshi youth.

Police came to the spot and arrested the Indonesian youth.

The injured Bangladeshi youth is now admitted at Penang hospital.

These incidents have led to creating scare and other uneasiness among the Bangladeshi community people.

The conscious expatriates think that if the Bangladeshi expatriates become united in searching out the abductors and hand them over to police then the abduction will decrease.

In this matter, the expatriates have sought the cooperation of the Bangladesh High Commission.
